Learning new things- Meridian Massage

One of the things I love about my job is that there are always opportunities for learning new skills. Before the pandemic I studied the first part of Kong Rak (Korean meridian massage), then of course the end of the training was delayed. I enjoyed the first half so much I have been itching to complete the training, and last weekend I finally managed to do so!

This traditional Korean therapy is relaxing and deep, it is a 3 hour treatment which methodically works to clear you meridians to enable better blood and energy flow throughout all the body systems.

It amazed me on the first part of the training, how much more relaxed my muscles felt even though it wasn’t the focus in the treatment… but I didn’t really feel it properly until I attended the second half of the training!

The training was in Darlington, so coming from Wexford, obviously travelling over the day before was long and draining. At the beginning of day 1 of training I was feeling drained, dizzy, nauseous and my head was pounding and my back was aching. Lucky for me, we began with work on the neck and head!! Within an hour of practicing on each other I could feel the sneaky beginnings of migraine slipping away, just from some work on the meridians in my neck, head and shoulders.

For those who don’t know, meridians are the pathways within the body, it is the system that is tapped in to with acupuncture. Everything in our body is encased and held in place with an endless web of connective tissue, meridians are pathways between the folds of this tissue. Ensuring that our pathways are clear, leads to improved function and flow throughout the body.

The treatment can be strong and deep, or more gentle in areas that are more sensitive (or if you respond better to a lighter treatment) it methodically works along all the meridians, encouraging flow in the right direction using thumbs, hands, forearms and sometimes special tools made from hand carved jade, pausing for deeper work where congestion is located. The treatment is deeply relaxing and beneficial for the whole body.

I’m really excited to bring this therapy to the treatment room! As I said, it’s a 3 hour treatment, no shorter options available here as the benefit is in taking the time and working on the whole body. If you’re going to give your body a boost then why not do it right? A longer treatment makes a huge difference to how much you relax in to the treatment and therefore how much you will get out of it!

This treatment will be available for booking from January 2022
